The History of NYC Branch PDF Print E-mail

Founded in 1886, the New York City Branch is the second oldest in the nation. In 1949, members purchased the brownstone at 111 E. 37th St. in Murray Hill, a district recently included in the State and National Registers of Historic Places. Plans are now under way to renovate the house.

The branch continues a long interest in the United Nations, with a number of members serving there as non-governmental observers. It belongs to the Educational Priorities Panel, a coalition of organizations working to improve the quality of education for New York City's school children.

We are also members of the New York Women's Agenda, an exciting coalition of over 100 women's organizations and the Murray Hill Neighborhood Association. The first Expanding Your Horizons™ Conference in the metropolitan area will be co-sponsored by the NYC and Westchester branches in March at Barnard College to encourage middle school girls to consider careers in math, science and technology.
