Classics Continuum
Classics Continuum promotes the study of Latin, Ancient Greek, and the classical world for the next generation. Founded in 2022 by Kate Cooney of Cooney Classics and, since 2025, housed within the AAUW NYC Metro branch, the Continuum advances AAUW’s mission of driving equity through education.
At its core, Classics Continuum equips young people with the cultural capital that studying the classics provides: the ability to recognize how ancient archetypes, values, and vocabulary continue to shape modern language, art, rhetoric, and democracy. By opening doors to a field too often closed, the Continuum expands equality of opportunity and champions the classics as an essential tool for civic engagement – one that should be accessible to everyone.
Through conferences, virtual and in-person events, open-access resources for teachers and learners, and collaborations with schools, universities and civic institutions, Classics Continuum:
-
Democratizes the study of Latin, Ancient Greek, and the classical world.
-
Fosters critical thinking, creativity, and civic leadership through engagement with the classics.
-
Promotes scholarship on how the classical world has shaped western culture, and modern retellings that transform that influence for a new generation.
By helping young people uncover the past with greater insight, Classics Continuum equips them to shape the future.
